What's Going On this November

Commenced: Individual Support Class started Work Placement

Our students completed 10 weeks of  theory and practical lessons for their Certificate III in Individual Support (Disability & Ageing). They organised a class break-out party and had an enjoyable time of team-bonding before splitting up into smaller groups for their work placement at various centres. They will be doing their disability work placement at Sunshine Welfare & Remedial Association and aged care placement at Pine Lodge Home for the Aged or Wesley Mission Sinnamon Village.

Commenced: Developing & Growing Small Business Program

The 1st workshop in a series of 12 workshops for Stream 1 participants (without business experience) commenced on 28 October 2017.

20 women were recruited for this stream. At the 1st workshop, they learnt about Business Planning, Basic Accounting and How to Start a Family Day Care.


Participants will also be involved in setting up and preparing stalls in 3 market events to practice business skills learnt.

Commenced: Night Markets Traineeship 

12 Trainees recruited for the MCC "Pasar Malam" Night Markets project  have commenced their traineeship on 10 October, 2017. A very multicultural group, the trainees hail from various countries - Australia, Brunei, China, Cambodia, Colombia, Libya, Italy, Papua New Guinea and Venezuela. With Paul Chuah and Flavia Martin are their co-supervisors, the trainees will be working on 2 Night Market projects:

  • Christmas Night Market on 9 December 2017
  • Chinese New Year Night Market on 3 February 2018

A great time for the family to get together and celebrate this festive season! There’ll be a wonderful Christmas Musical Show, food trucks, Christmas market, so much more so bring your friends, families and neighbours along!

When: Thursdays, 10.00am to 12.00pm
Where: 23 Foster Street, Newmarket
The lessons are regularly attended by 12 members with the assistance of 4 volunteers. New members are most welcomed.

Want to get into a career in disability/aged care? Get qualified to work as an Assistant in Nursing, Personal Care Assistant, Community Support Worker or Home Care Assistant.

The next course is scheduled from 23 January to 23 May 2018 and will be held at 23 Foster St, Newmarket.

No Fees for Australian/New Zealand citizens, Permanent Residents or Temporary Residents with the necessary visa and work permits on a pathway to permanent residency. Other conditions apply.

Want to get into a career in early childhood education? Get qualified to work as an Assistant in a Childcare Centre, Nanny, Playgroup Supervisor or start your own Family Day Care.

The next course is scheduled from 1 February to 29 June 2018 and will be held at 23 Foster St, Newmarket.

Update from October

Basic Car Maintenance Course

The workshop on how to check oil, filter, all fluids, tire pressure, belts, hoses, brakes, leaks, etc was held on Friday 27 October 2017 for about 20 participants.

An information session run by Carers QLD in conjunction with MCC under the Settlement Services program funded by the Department of Social Services.
