Every year, the Graduate Women's Queensland awards the Delma Doherty Bursary to an outstanding female student, who has succeeded well inspite of the many obstacles in her pursuit of higher education. On the 20th March 2021 a small ceremony was held at the Women's College at the University of QLD St. Lucia, to present the Bursary award to Ta Naw Naw Po. Present at the ceremony were Dr. Del Doherty, Dr. Mary Crawford (President of GWQ) and MCC's Director (Volunteer) Mrs. Jeannie Mok OAM. Ta Naw Naw was a refugee from Burma and completed her Certificate III in Individual Support at MCC in 2020. While currently employed with the Department of Communities, Ta Naw Naw has enrolled in a Certificate IV in Disability. Accompanying Ta Naw Naw at the award ceremony were her mother and sister. Congratulations Ta Naw Naw Po on your achievement!!

What happened in March?
MCC was graced with a visit from Mr. Jimmy Sullivan Member for Stafford to see all the wonderful work MCC has done to help the community. Mr. Sullivan was able to catch one of our information sessions organized by our Settlement, Engagement and Transition Support team for refugees on how to start up a small business. He also met our trainees from our Work Skill Traineeship Program and our Certificate III course students.
International Women's Day
MCC's Director (Volunteer) Mrs. Jeannie Mok OAM attended the International Women's Day reception hosted by the Qld Premier. Mrs Mok was photographed with the Queensland Premier Anastacia Palaszczuk as well as the Minister for Employment and Small Business Dianne Farmer.
Harmony Day
Harmony Week is an annual event that celebrates Australia's cultural diversity, it is a week long celebration from the 15th-21st March every year about inclusiveness, respect and sense of belonging for everyone. Our Director (Volunteer) Mrs. Jeannie Mok OAM attended celebrations that were held at the Multicultural Hub at Annerley.
